Brown Bear

The interior grizzly is genetically identical to the Alaska or coastal brown bear in our display. On average, the grizzly weighs 400 pounds less than the coastal brown bear, which is so much larger because of the amount of food on the coast. When the fish are available, a coastal brown bear will consume 50 to 150 pounds of fish every 24 hours. During most of the year, the coastal brown bear’s diet is 80% vegetarian and 20% fish. One brown bear requires 20,000 calories a day, ten times what a human needs.
