Bald Eagles

The eagles in the Chilkat Valley raise their eaglets starting in late May. By the first of September, the young fledge the nest. Juvenile eagles have a mottled brown and white coloration and sometimes appear larger than mature eagles because of their longer flight feathers. These feathers serve as nature’s training wheels, helping the juveniles stabilize during their early flying days. A juvenile eagle will have the fully white head and tail of an adult in five years.
