Alaska-Yukon Moose

The Alaska-Yukon moose is part of the deer family. The moose on the left is twelve years old and weighs 1,600 pounds. A bull moose reaches its prime between four and eight years of age. If a moose lives to be fourteen, it is considered an accomplishment. For every 100 calves born in spring, 50% will die as prey for bears and wolves within five months. 80% will be dead two years after they are born. The moose is an herbivore and loves eating aquatic plants and the willows that grow close to the water. A moose can eat comfortably with its nose under 20 feet of water.
