Gray Wolf

The Gray Wolf may also be known as the Timber Wolf or the Arctic Wolf. Wolves prefer to travel in packs, generally with six to eighteen other wolves. There is a dominant male and a dominant female leading each pack. The dominant couple weighs 100 to 120 pounds each, with the male slightly larger than the female. Each pack of wolves requires 200 square miles of territory to survive. The prime food source for the wolves is the moose. For the wolves to be this size, which is gigantic compared to the rest of North America, they must consume 25 to 45 moose per pack every year. They are well-fed in our part of the world.
