Dall sheep can easily be distinguished from mountain goats by their short coat and brown, curling horns. Their horns are permanent and continue to grow throughout an animal’s life, distinct growth rings on the horns, called annuli, can be counted to determine the age of an animal.
Dall sheep live in mountainous areas. Predators, severe weather, disease from livestock, and deep snow are all challenges Dall sheep may face. Golden eagles have learned to attack sheep who perch precariously on cliffs; those who fall to their death provide a large meal for the eagles.
