Psettichthys melanostictus

   This flatfish undergoes metamorphosis, shifting from a vertical swimmer to a flat bottom-dweller. The sand sole stays small and oval shaped and has plain brown fins. They can weigh as much as 6 lbs (3 kg),  and can live 8 years or more. This fish can be found off the coast of California all the way up to the Bering Sea.

   They can be found in a variety of colors, from brown to green and grey, often with dark blotches which help them blend into their surroundings. These flatfish will eat worms, fish, crustaceans, and mollusks.
