Lithodes aequispinus

   Probably the least impressive of the three commercially caught king crab species, the less colorful golden king crab is also the smallest, averaging between 5 and 8 lbs (2-3.5 kg). Like the other king crabs, the golden king crab feeds on a variety of invertebrates including worms, clams, crab, algae, and sponges.

   Although the range for the three king crab species overlaps, the golden, red, and blue king crab are rarely seen together. Part of this might be due to the size difference and cannibalistic habits of these three crab species.
