The Application Period for the 2022 Internship is Now Open!

Do you have a passion for wildlife education? We are now accepting applications to join our team for the 2022 summer programming season! Meet guests from around the world and help share our mission to protect bald eagles and their ecosystem through inspiring educational programming. Behind the scenes, learn what it takes to operate a nature center from animal husbandry to museum specimen care. In your down time, explore the incredible scenery of remote Southeast Alaska. There are two types of internship positions – the Animal Care team and the Museum team. While both teams participate in daily operations and interpretive programming, each has a different specialization:

Animal care interns learn the ins and outs of animal husbandry and training under the direction of our staff of Certified Professional Bird Trainers. Click here for a detailed job description.

Museum interns get up close and personal with our collection of over 200 specimens to learn the details of collections maintenance and management. Click here for a detailed job description.

The qualified candidate will:

  • be flexible
  • take initiative
  • have a desire to learn
  • be willing to accept constructive criticism
  • work well in teams and alone
  • manage time efficiently
  • communicate clearly, directly, and honestly
  • have a positive attitude
  • willing and able to complete physically challenging tasks

Interns will receive a $380 bi-monthly stipend, free housing, and up to $1000 travel reimbursement. Selected interns will be expected to adhere to all State of Alaska travel requirements. Additionally, the ABEF requires that all staff and interns are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 except those with a qualifying exemption.

Interested in applying? Whether you are applying to be an Animal Care intern, a Museum intern, or would like to be considered for either, follow the directions below. Applications are due by Friday, February 11th at 5pm AKST. Questions? Contact us!
